Common Pinterest Mistakes

In this episode, I’m sharing the most common mistakes that I see when it comes to Pinterest Marketing! If you’re hoping to grow your Pinterest presence and utilize it as a marketing tool for your business, make sure that you’re not making these mistakes. They’re small things but they add up! Pinterest can be an incredible tool to grow your business, but only if used correctly.

Board Mistakes

Cutesy titles

Everything that you write is something that could potentially help you get found.

An example I use a lot for food: you wouldn’t want it to be “yummy in my tummy”, instead you would want it to be something that people are actually looking for which is “Healthy Dinner Recipes”

Not having a business Board

Everything I pin for Twocan or everything I pin for CZ Invitations, (my own personal content) I make sure that I pin that to one board. All my invitations go to a board called “CZ invitations” and all the Twocan pins for like the podcast, coaching, etc. I am pinning that is specific to MY biz, I pin to my “Twocan” board.

Relying too much on group boards

A lot of group boards now are just spammy. And honestly if you look at the results you’re getting from them on your tailwind analytics you’ll probably be surprised to see it’s not working for you like you’d hope it would.

I don’t pin very much to group boards, because you also run the risk of being flagged as spam if you’re in a spammy group board. Audit your group boards often--if they’re not working for you, leave em.

Not having a business account

You need to have a business account if you are a business. I believe it is actually Pinterest’s policy that if you are a business and promoting a business, you have to be a business account.

When you are a business account, you get perks that other accounts otherwise wouldn’t, like being able to run ads, analytics, etc.

It also makes you look legit to those people who may be doing their research to order from you or work with you.

Pinning too much of the same

If it’s not working, try something new

I love templates when making pins, but if you have 900 pins that all look the same and none of them are going viral or getting traction, it’s time to pick a new design.

I constantly try new designs and you can easily do this with Canva or adobe. With Canva my only warning would be that if you use one of their templates, you run the risk of looking just like everyone else's pins. I thought of someone copying someone once, so I told them, and they said no it was Canva template. If you want your pins to go viral, you have to stand out even just a little. Try and differentiate yourself as much as you can.

Not having a strategy

You have to have a Pinterest strategy if you want to be successful. For me, a huge part of my Strategy is using Tailwind. Tailwind is single-handedly the thing that has created consistent income for me when it comes to marketing on Pinterest. Luckily for you, Tailwind offers a free trial that is 100 pins with no time limit. Or, if you’re ready to go all-in, you can click the link below to get a free month or $30 off!

As for ads, if a pin doesn’t perform organically, they probably won’t get crazy good results just because you put money behind it. Have an ad strategy as well!
