Easy Etsy Photo Tips to Make More Sales!

Stop obsessing over the perfect pictures.

This might be the ONLY time I think quantity over quality, but it does not have to be perfect when it comes to Etsy pictures. I made six figures on Etsy with poor quality, unedited dark photos.

Your pictures don't have to be professional to sell your products.
Your pictures don't have to be professional to sell your products.

Yes, I did say that twice on purpose; I think some of you needed to read that again.

If you have professional pictures, GREAT!!!! Is it bad to have some professional pics and some quick snaps? No. I promise two professional pics, and eight non-professional pics IS ok.

The right people will find and buy your product. The more pics you have, the more confident they will be in buying. When you can build that level of trust BEFORE they even buy, you'll get raving reviews. You'll be more likely to get bad reviews like "it wasn't what I expected" or "It's smaller than I thought" when you don't use enough pictures that accurately display your item.

Eliminate any question by adding more pictures that vary, and show the product in as many ways as possible.

Here are a few quick tips for your pictures!

1. Use all ten pictures

Etsy lets you add ten pictures, use them all! People are more willing to buy when they see more photos. Would you buy something with only one picture?

Here's an example that I use in my stationery business: If I take a picture of just the invitation inserts, I can use that image across multiple listings, regardless of the color. As long as the font matches! This saves me time and givse me fewer pictures to edit and take!

Are there any aspects that are the same across all products, so you can reuse the same image? (like I mentioned with the RSVP/inserts above? If you sell candles, is there one image, like from the top down, for example, that you can use on all your listings?

All are easy ways to add more pictures across listings for minimal work.

Have you ever looked at something and thought there were too many pictures? Probably not very often. If anything, you have probably looked at something online and wished you could see the back, or another angle. Don’t let your potential clients think that about your listings.

2. Use dimensions

It's not cute, but it's HELPFUL when there is a quarter or pencil in the picture to show scale. You'll be less likely to receive a bad review when people know what to expect.

Let me use rocks as an example. (if you're new here. Hi, I'm Carley and I collect rocks πŸ˜‚) On Etsy, it is VERY hard to tell how big a rock is. I love when they show it sitting in the palm of a hand or next to a quarter for scale. I have looked at a crystal and thought it was the size of a grapefruit, and scrolled only to find it was the size of a quarter.

PICTURES CAN BE MISLEADING. Make sure yours are not. That's precisely why quantity can go farther than quality!

3. Show more than Mockups

People want to see REAL pictures of you using or holding the product, so they know it's really going to be as pictured. Holding it in your hand is a way to show that you're a real person, and add scale.

PRO TIP: NO MATTER THE PRODUCT YOU'RE SELLING, WHENEVER YOU HAVE A CUSTOM ORDER OR SOMEONE ORDERS A NEW COLOR, TAKE PICS BEFORE YOU SEND IT OUT THE DOOR! IF NOTHING ELSE, YOU CAN ADD THIS TO ANY CURRENT LISTINGS TO SHOW OFF DIFFERENT COLORS! BETTER YET, MAKE A NEW LISTING FOR THE NEW item/COLOR.

Not only does this show off the item in real life, but it also shows that you do custom orders!

Showing you holding it in hand, while not the cutest, does ALL THREE tips: It adds more photos, shows dimensions, and it’s more than mockups. People like to see items in real life, this helps!

The 90+ million buyers want to see your products in real life. They want the confidence that 10 varying pictures show, so that they know EXACTLY what they are getting.

What do you look for in pictures when you shop online? Tell me!

If I had to guess, you've probably purchased from someone with less than perfect pics. Am I right?
