WEEK THREE HOMEWORK

CUSTOM ORDERS

Questions to consider before choosing the “right” path for you.

  1. How does my ideal client want to place orders?

  2. What would be the easiest for me?

    1. Does this reflect how my ideal clients also want to order?

  3. Is what I am doing now working?

    1. Is there room for improvement?

    2. What could I do to make it easier for me and my clients?

  4. If you had a great client that is willing to give you feedback, ask them how you could have made the process easier! I have a questionnaire I send out to get feedback, but we will get into that next week!

Create/Update Policies for Custom Orders

  1. Do you accept multiple payments?

  2. How long does it take?

  3. Is there a minimum price or quantity required for custom orders?

  4. Do you require a contract?

Make sure these are clearly listed in your policies.

Turning On Custom Listings

On Listings: Edit > Under Description find this option >

Shop Manager > Settings > Options > Enable Custom Listings

Alternatives to Custom Listing

  1. Add variation and the Customization option to listings that are “semi-custom” or don’t need a full custom listing. If people reach out and want a custom listing, you can always create it, but if they have the option to “DIY” the process, many people will.

  2. Add listings to offer listings multiple ways

    1. Link between the two in the description! “If you’re wanting this customised, click here: *insert link*” for example!

Managing Custom Orders

  1. If you need help managing custom orders, consider Dubsado (linked on page 23)

  2. Getting contracts signed: Per my husbands suggestion, https://signrequest.com/#/

    1. It looks like they have free and paid options, but for what he needed this was the cheapest ($80/year). I’m sure there are other similar options for free, too!
